That is deceiving, since though I'm moved further north...it's just farther away from everything. But I did move. It took a few loads, over two weekends, but I made it. The second load, my friend Erica & I literally dragged the 20 blocks from my old apartment to the new one...so that was fun. A story for posterity. I also found a wardrobe (as in, the furniture piece) and a dresser from a couple on the upper west side who was a casualty of the financial crisis, so I got a good deal. I feel slightly sadistic.
So on Friday (the Friday before last), a little under a week after moving into the apartment, I rented a Uhaul and dragged these items (the first REAL furniture I own, that I bought), to my new apt. The wardrobe is huge, and luckily from IKEA, so it comes apart. But that also meant that I had to put it together myself. I had a little help in hauling the pieces up my stairs from a neighbor-boy, which was nice. And then I proceeded to put together the closet-wardrobe, which was quite a feat. But I felt very proud to be able to do it all myself.
Then Saturday, I organized all the piles and luggage-bags so that my room actually looks like a room. I also managed to find an excellent deal on sheets, a mattress pad, and curtains for my room. sooooo....exciting!!
The job has been a bit less so. I finally got an email address for my new site and also sent out letters to teachers on Friday asking if any of them wanted me to come talk to their classes about, what else, sex! No, but really, sex ed. Or puberty or whatever. So I'm hoping to hear back from some of them soon. But I may have to be a bit more aggressive. I'm not particularly expecting anything out of the letter. That would just be way too great and easy.
I found out that in a couple weeks, I'll have like, 4 visitors within 3 weeks...! I'm very excited about that. I really do love having people come visit. And sort of on that note, I am really getting along with my roommate. She's a talker, and she isn't particularly clean, exactly, but she also isn't here much and doesn't cook much and therefore doesn't make that much of a mess all at the same time, so I don't mind cleaning up after her.
I do miss all of the people I love...my parents, my international friends, the best friends, etc. But I am very much feeling centered, and like I need this time in my life to be more or less alone, and I feel very much on the way to "finding myself," whatever that means, or perhaps it's more like establishing myself. One of my big goals is just to eat better and actually exercise so that I will be strong and happy. I discovered yesterday (or re-realized that there is this option) the Netflix watch-now option of workout videos. One of them is of the NYC Ballet workout, and I actually am really excited about doing it, and came home from work today and got to it. There are 2 volumes...each an hour. I just did the first hour, but I'm hoping to work up to them both. Okay, this is totally mundane & boring. Haha, so I'm gonna leave it at that. The new apartment is awesome, I love having a washer & dryer, and I really look forward to having people come visit :-). mwah!!
